Barr Stroud Telescope Monocular Binocular Wwii Antique. Barr & stroud monocular telescope early mid 20 century. Barr & stroud 1913-1977 were a scottish company who supplied naval and military authorities throughout the world with optical intsruments such as rangefinders for battleships, periscopes and binoculars ect. They are signed on the brass plaque. Barr & stroud ltd monocular telescope type c. The monocular is constructed fo heavy brass and comes with its stowage box which also has a brass plaque that bears the inscription type cd 54 no 10304 also included is a stand which came from a wwii helio which inscribed also on the brass plaque. The monocular has three polarising filters which are operated by the external knob, the focusing is via the eyepiece which is numbered 0-5 and give a nice clicking sound when operated. It aslo comes with the original rubber eyepiece and also features two nitrogen ports and exetrnal brass sight. The fitted pine box has no key but locks securely via the large hook & eye closure and has a brass carrying handle.Scientific instruments barr stroud telescope monocular binocular wwii antique the tripod stand works very well with the monocular and is also black with brass fittings, ti also has a handy canvas carrying strap and spicked feet, it also dates from the same period as the monocular. The monocular measures 28cm in length the diameter of the diopter lens is 3cm and the objective lens is 5cm, the stand measures 100cm tall. The monocular has a small chip of the prism/ lens this can only be noticed when looking backwards (see pic 3) this does not effect the optics which are crisp and clear and also have there crosshairs still intact (pic 4), also some slight paint loss at the end of the objective sun shade, otherwise in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition.
